Begin Anew

(started 2010-09-16)

"We may lose and we may win, though we will never be here again" - Eagles - Take It Easy (1972)

Time and space. Relevance. Significance. Renewal.

The Eagles song, "Take it Easy", reminds us that we won't be here again. Where is here? Modern GPS units can give Latitude and Longitude, and some Altitude. A nice set of 3 coordinates that can precisely pinpoint your location, or can it? Here is a difficult concept. There have been many great books written just on the concept, such as "Be Here Now" (Ram Das 1971). Where here becomes more than just about physical location, but also about present moment.

At the present moment, is a new year. Every new year, we're given the chance to think about how we're going to change, what we're going to change, how we can be better. Every new year we make plans, resolutions, promises, commitments to ourselves and others. Why do we do this? What is our drive? The answer is that ingrained in each of us is the fear of time. Time is passing, Time is moving forward, are we keeping pace with Time? A fear, most real inside of us.

This fear is part of what drives us, even if we fail to acknowledge it.

(continued 2014-03-14)

Fear is what causes us to hold tight to despair.  Fear is what allows us to deceive ourselves into thinking we're not falling for the traps we set in our own road.  Fear is what makes us want to be better, and yet fear is what keeps us from pursuing that state of being better.  Fear is the demon inside that torments us and keeps us from our change.  Worse, fear is how we let others control our lives for us.

My fear is keeping me trapped in cycles that are causing me to be unhealthy.  I'm making decisions and keeping attachments that I know are holding me back from the changes I must make.  I'm letting the past continue to hold me.  As a Seeker, I must begin the process of removing this fear, or I will never Find.  I must move forward, or I do not Seek.

The ancient song washes over me, and I feel it anew...
I look once more to the mountains, and wonder what is The Source that will help me.  I shall be given aid from The Divine, Creator of Worlds.

...אֶשָּׂא עֵינַי...אֶשָּׂא עֵינַי
